Wood Carvings & Oil Paintings
In 1975, as a 23 year old , Lurie studied wood carving full time, immersing himself in the art under the tutelage of a master carver in Java, Indonesia.
Carving seemed to come naturally to him, as if he knew the spirit of the wood, and during that time, he executed seven carvings in teak, two of which he offers in this gallery.
Lurie's carving ability has served him well through the years as a restorationist and carpenter.
As far as his painting goes, Lurie would
not describe himself as an oil painter, though he loves the medium. He has hopes to do more, as his artistic vision pulls all mediums together.
