About the Artist
Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Mark Lurie is a passionate artist, architectural designer, sustainable
builder, and world traveler. He has studied and
practiced art, architecture, and restoration around the world. As you
will witness in the photographs of his work, Lurie is multi-faceted, defying
the stereotypical artist defined by a single calling.
Studying under a master woodcarver in Java, Indonesia in 1975 at the
age of 23, Lurie found he had a natural affinity for carving and later
parlayed the talent into a successful antique restoration business. Designing
his own furniture and Victorian house, he was eventually drawn back into
building
and spent 25 years in Santa Barbara, CA, practicing architectural
design and restoration, often working on historically significant structures.
Lurie has evolved into
an
environmentally friendly designer as you will see in the pictures of
his
dome studio under construction in Baja California.
Lurie currently lives in Baja CA Norte, south of Ensenada, and devotes his time to a variety of creative pursuits, some of which
he
would like to share with you here.
